In 2019, while drying clothes on her HDB balcony, designer Lisa suddenly wondered: Why can't Singaporean homes have both the coolness of the tropics and the warmth of culture? After traversing the island, she discovered that rattan baskets made by experienced local artisans could hold a family's laundry, and that traditional Malay batik curtains perfectly filtered the equatorial sunlight—a dream to ensure every Singaporean family could find homewares that evoke local memories.
We don't just import cookie-cutter goods; we choose items that are "grown in Singapore." We collaborated with a rattan weaving family in Geylang to create flower pot racks that can be hung on HDB railings. The rustling of the rattan leaves in the wind evokes an afternoon in the kampung. We enlisted a Nyonya embroiderer in Katong to embroider Baba patterns onto cotton and linen cushions, evoking memories of a grandmother's living room. We even used recycled coconut shells and had a potter create nightlights. The warm yellow light filtering through the coconut shell grain resembles the streetlights below our HDB block.
These items aren't lavishly packaged, but they embody a thoughtful understanding of life in Singapore. Ceramic coasters with drainage panels are perfect for rainy weather, preventing mold on tabletops. Stackable, multi-layered storage boxes help small apartments hide clutter in corners. Even scented candles, infused with the fragrance of fresh grass from a botanical garden after rain, feel like bringing the rainforest home. We never sell "commodities" but the small, personal pleasures of "breathing" in a densely populated city—the lightness of putting down your briefcase after an overworked day, the slowness of sipping teh tarik (tea) on a Nyonya embroidered cushion on a weekend morning, and the gentle peace we cherish in the fast-paced city.
Now, from HDB flats in Ang Mo Kio to condos in Marina Bay, these items are finding their way into the homes of more and more Singaporeans. Because good homewares are never just cold, decorative pieces; they're companions who accompany you through the vibrant life of Singapore, transforming your days into a poetic experience. We want to bring you the romance of a Singaporean home.
